C-SPAN – Hat’s Off for the Video Tour of Incident Command Post in Houma, Louisiana
C-SPAN answered my post of Tuesday with this Video Tour of the Incident Command Post in Houma, Louisiana. I saw a re-run of this on Sunday night. Check C-SPAN listings to see if it will be re-aired again.
This is exactly what I was looking for. Here we have a detailed walk through of the command post with interviews with the people that are on the front-line trying to handle the BP Oil catastrophe.
As of today there are only 10 facebook recommends – please spread the word so more people can watch this.

BP Oil Catastrophe – “Why aren’t these people in jail?” – Not What You Think!
Don’t let the title fool you because I don’t think this is the issue that needs to be discussed right now. Here’s a copy of my comments on the Ex-EPA Officials: Why Isn’t BP Under Criminal Investigation? Friday 28 May 2010 by: Jason Leopold, t r u t h o u t | Report blog post.
“Why is everyone so bent on spending time and money on pointing the finger – this will not help to solve the problem of oil gushing into the Gulf.
Our (and I mean everyone around the world) immediate focus needs to be on shutting this thing down.
A global task force of the best engineers can surely figure out how to do just that.
Deal with who pays for what when and how afterward – don’t let the patient die on the operating table while you figure out whose gonna pay the bills.”
All I hear about is “Whose gonna pay?”, “Why hasn’t she/he been fired?”, “They should all be put in jail!” – everytime there’s a major BREAKING STORY.
If 1/8th of the resources and brain power being wasted on this kind of thinking were channeled into finding a solution to the BP oil catastrophe (it’s not a spill) it would be shut down by now and a true cleanup initiative would be underway. It’s with everything these days when something goes wrong the 1st reaction is to assign blame and responsibility. Traditional media does nothing to help in that regard either because it’s more sensational to stir the pot around blame and responsibility then it is to actually report on the people that are doing something to fix and solve the problem.
I’d love to see CNN do a special on a strategy meeting where the top engineers in the world are gathered around a white board brainstorming non-stop to find a solution – that would be REALITY TV.

A Day at Island Dragway
My son, daughter and her fiance gave to me as a birthday gift a day at Island Dragway. My daughter Caitlin drag races her 2007 Subaru STi along with her fiance Brent who races his worked 91 Talon Tsi. Caitlin asked Brent what they should get me for my birthday and he just looked at her and said “You already know.” and so it came to be that on October 11th 2009 we all went drag racing.
I was the lucky recipient of Caitlin’s 2000 Subaru Impreza 2.5 RS when she bought her STi last November from CBRD in York PA. That’s a whole other story for later.
Here is a video of my 2nd pass:
Here is a video of my 3rd (final) and best pass:

Going back to work…
Today was back to work – I had extended my Labor Day holiday by two days to take advantage of the good weather that had been forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday. I was intending to work on my project car – a 1974 Ford Light Grabber Blue Pinto Runabout flickr photo journal.
As these things go the weather predictions did not hold true and I was only able to work on the car on Tuesday. As the weather gets colder my window of opportunity is getting smaller.
My focus for this portion of the project car is to rebuild the rear suspension. I have all the new parts needed and am in the process of removing rust and sealing the other parts I plan to reuse. I need warm weather for the sealing, painting and undercoating to work well – but I digress as this is going back to work… day.
Going back to work after a couple of days off usually means playing catch up – as most everyone can attest to. I am the New Media Director for a local travel destination here in the Pocono Mountains. I love what I do and enjoy expanding my horizons, learning new things and applying what I’ve learned to solve problems. This mornings main task was to finish producing a sales video for one of our Vice Presidents of Sales. Once I got back into the groove time flew by and the video was finished and in the hands of the person responsible for mailing it out. The rest of the day went just a smoothly as I remained focused on one task at a time checking them off the list as I went.
Not all days work in this way as multiple requirements for my time can derail the focus and end in nothing getting completed that was planned out for that day. But that’s OK because I would have helped a number of people finish what was on their lists and in the end we all work for the same company. So today I was going back to work… and it turned out to be good day.
Peace.

Where are you going?
Good question.
We all get asked this question at least once a day. When you were younger the question would usually come from your parents just as you’re walking out the door. The answer was at best a quick response something like this – “Joe’s (Jill’s) house.” Innocent enough question and answer.
Now as we’ve grown older the question “Where are you going?” depending on who’s doing the asking can either be as simple as the example above or more deeply connected to one’s career, life, or spiritual journey.
This blog will ask the question “Where are you going?” and answers will come from myself, my family, friends, business associates, and people like you. Some answers will be straight forward like “Out to the garage to work on my project car.” or more socially responsible like “To offer whatever I can in the way of help to non-profit and volunteer groups looking to make a difference.”.
So ask yourself “Where are you going?” and don’t be afraid to leave your answer as a comment.
My answer today is “Into the uncharted waters (for me anyways) of social media via this blog.”. Maybe we’ll bump into one another along the way.
Peace.
